Kerry R. Thompson, Sr., CSCS is the Head of Sports Performance and Sports Science at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida, where he oversees strength and conditioning for all varsity sports and leads the school’s growing sports science department.
Thompson brings over a decade of collegiate and professional experience to his work, having most recently served as Assistant Director of Football Sports Performance and Director of Speed at the University of Southern California (May 2025–January 2026). Prior to USC, he held senior sports performance leadership roles at Alabama State University, Clark Atlanta University, Grambling State University, and Allen University, where he built and directed programs across a combined 46 varsity sports.
Thompson has also contributed to professional football as Director of Sports Performance for Fan Controlled Football and is an NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship participant.
He holds a B.S. in Health Studies from UAB, an M.S. in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Exercise Science at Liberty University. He is certified as a CSCS by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Sport-specific training qualifies under the Physical Education (P.E.) funding category for multiple Florida Step Up scholarship programs. Families can use their Education Savings Account (ESA) to pay for TSP sessions directly — no out-of-pocket cost for eligible families. Ask your Scholarship Funding Organization (SFO) to pre-authorize enrollment.
For K–12 Florida students not enrolled full-time in public or private school. Available to all families regardless of household income. Funds are placed in an ESA and can be used for P.E., tutoring, curriculum, and more. Note: PEP is at capacity for new students in 2026–27; renewing students check stepupforstudents.org.
For students ages 3–22 with one of 23 qualifying diagnoses including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Down syndrome, and speech/language impairments. Covers P.E./sports training, therapies, tutoring, and private school. Award varies by grade, county, and services.
For K–12 students attending private school. Available regardless of household income. Can cover P.E. enrichment expenses beyond tuition.
For K–12 students who experienced a documented bullying incident in public school. Allows participation in the Private School Scholarship Program. Families can apply at any time following an eligible incident.
For VPK–5th grade public school students identified as needing reading or math support. Funds can be used for tutoring and enrichment programs including P.E.
For K–8 students attending a public school other than the one they are assigned to. Awarded per household, not per student.
